Avondzon
was founded in the late 19th century on the slopes of the Steenkampskop
mountain.
Until 1996 it was mainly in use as a dairy farm, growing corn, wheat and beans
at the same time, like most other farmers in this part of the Free State
do, as you can see when standing on top of the mountain. The fields are interrupted only by mountain ranges (koppies) like the one of
Avondzon and groups of trees, which usually indicate farm houses at
large distances of each other.
At present our cattle primarily serve to maintain and develop the natural character of the landscape.
